National Geographic - Traveler April 2001 Bliss by the Chesapeake Bay "We're really trying to put a bit of ourselves in every room" says Liz Evans of the Inn at Easton, which she owns with her husband and chef, Andrew. That they've done. First impression: The picture of the Evans's two-year-old daughter Gabby sporting an "I Love My Daddy's Cooking" T-shirt is a dead give-away that the inn bears the couple's very personal imprint. But this is no bed-and-breakfast. The renovated 1790 Federal Mansion on Maryland's Eastern Shore offers a blend of citified boutique flair and Chesapeak rusticity. The bedrooms mingle antiques with whimsical art. The Governor's Suite features oriental lamps, a king-size bed, and plush couches (nice tourch: Andrew's framed July 23,1995, love letter to Liz from Vietnam).Telling Details: Upper and lower verandas where you can sip Cosmopolitans; turndown service with chocolates and Pellegrino water; Aveda products in the bathrooms, Then there's the dining - arguably the best in the area. On weekends you can try the $49 prix fixe menu, or choose from a selectin that includes tempura of yellowfin tuna and seared kangaroo. |
