You don't have to stay overnight to dine at this chic, friendly inn, but oh, you should. Chef Andrew Evans and wife Liz rescued this Federal home from its last incarnation as apartments. They restored the original floors, doors, moldings, and hardware, then added bold colors, high-dollar bath fixtures, and fine linens (the sweetest bed I've sunk into recently). Meals are equally romantic and include flavors from the Chesapeake area, Asia, and Australia (where Andrew met Liz). To start, Three Treasures of the Bay gives pristine bites of crab cake, an oyster in cream, and teriyaki-glazed skate. Meat lovers should try the mixed grill: a tender venison chop, pheasant sausage, and Australian lobster, all atop just-right risotto. For dessert, tangy citrus livens a gentle, creamy pana cotta.
